what is cholestrol ?

What is cholestrol ? maybe lot's of people asking what is cholestrol, what is the role in our body, and why cholestrol become a disease in our body.  Cholestrol is a natural chemical compound in our body with the structure combine between lipid (fat) and steroid. Approximately 80% of cholestrol produce from the liver and the rest come from our daily diet.
There are three main function of cholestrol in our body :

  • Use to produce steroid and cortisone hormones
  • Helps the liver to produce bile acid
  • Become a building block for our body tissues


Although cholestrol play an important role in our body, but an excess cholestrol level in may become a problem, it called hypercholesterolemia. Cholestrol level become hypercholesterolemia when it's value over 200 mg/ dL. What is the risk of have it ? you may suffer from atherosclerosis or a hardening of the arteries and heart disease.
